Exhibition Opening: ARCHITECT’S GAZE. Bringing the West Home

On Thursday, February 13, at 5 PM, we will open an exhibition about Estonian architects’ travels beyond the Iron Curtain during the Soviet era.

The exhibition explores travel as an essential professional practice and source of inspiration for architects—something not accessible to everyone in the Soviet period. Who among Estonian architects had the opportunity to travel to the West during the Cold War, and how were these experiences shared?

The exhibition presents rare travel slides from Estonian architects’ journeys to the West in the 1960s–1980s, offering insight into how travel functioned at the time. Through photographs, we witness the free world through the eyes of an architect—capturing much more than just architecture.

The exhibition is curated by Karen Jagodin, designed by Koit Randmäe and graphic design by Brit Pavelson (Viieline).

The exhibition will be open in the Estonian Museum of Architecture until April 6, 2025.
