Art collection

The Museum of Architecture’s art collection is relatively small and, above all, related to architects. The collection contains cityscapes and landscapes by the older generation of architects, Paul Mielberg, Ernst Kühnert and several others, post-war watercolours by Karl Burman sen., and large-scale monumental wall paintings by Valli Lember-Bogatkina.

Works by architects of the Tallinn school – Leonhard Lapin, Toomas Rein, Veljo Kaasik, Avo-Himm Looveer, Jaan Ollik, Tiit Kaljundi, Vilen Künnapu, Ignar Fjuk and Ülevi Eljand – make up a more integral part of the collection.

The art collection includes several architectons in addition to drawings and watercolours. Architectons are spatial compositions somewhere between a mock-up and sculpture and were a very popular medium in the 1970s and 1980s.
