“Space Snatchers. The best of the architectural photography competition”

III

Floor

27.01. – 26.03.2017

Architectural photography is a specific genre where the majority today tends to be driven by promotional causes or the need to document heritage listed objects rather than being an artistic statement in its own right. To invigorate the local architectural photography scene, the Museum of Estonian Architecture held a competition, inviting photographic series comprising two to four pictures. The competition was divided into two categories: objective depictions of architecture, and artistic shots conveying the subjective point of view of the photographer.

The 83 competition entries testify to our photographers’ interest in testing their skills and articulating their relationship towards the built environment. For the exhibition the jury chose 14 entries, seven series from each category.

With the exhibition we also look back on the museum’s last architectural photography competition which was held in 2001. Comparing the two competitions with 15 years between these, illustrates the drastic changes that have occurred both on the field of architecture as well as photography.

Until March 26.
